Facing the Photographers

Facing the Photographers symbolises the freedom to enjoy exhibitions again. After the Covid-19 lockdown, I felt free to grab my camera and go out to photograph the exhibitors.

I think it is important to show the faces of the photographers behind their work. Without them, there were only empty containers. Who are the photographers? Where do they come from? What do they want to say? What is their story? I am always curious why people do what they do.

Photographers don’t show themselves most of the time, they show their work. I show their faces. I don’t let them hide anymore. Just as I no longer hide my portraits. I want to show it. That’s why this exhibition is the perfect opportunity. In my own city, Rotterdam.

Black and white photography is my style. It is timeless and powerful, yet vulnerable. By removing colour, you get to the essence of the face; the look in the eyes, the facial expressions and texture. I put a lot of love and energy into making and editing my portraits.

Let’s face the photographers.
