Rotterdam Photo – Street photography workshop

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience this street photography workshop with Magnum photographer Nikos Economopoulos. The aim of this 7-day street photography workshop is to guide participants through technical, theoretical, and aesthetic issues toward developing their unique photographic style under the guidance of world-renowned Magnum photographer Nikos Economopoulos.

Why a workshop in Istanbul. Why do I love this city? Let me count the ways. I love the locals, who have an endless supply of hospitality, good-humour and insightful conversation at their disposal. I love the fact that when I walk down a city street, layers of history unfold before me. I love listening to the sound of the müezzins. I love the restaurants, the bars and the tea gardens. But most of all, I love the fact that in İstanbul, an extraordinary cultural experience lies around every corner. (Virginia Maxwell, Lonely Planet)

Working with Nikos in Istanbul was personally an eye-opener for me. His insight and way of seeing changed my entire approach to photography. If you want to take your photography to the next level and make meaningful images I highly recommend his workshops for you! Marcel Kollen managing director of Rotterdam photo and followed this amazing workshop a couple of years ago!

Each participant will get a review of the portfolio on the first-day meeting, as a way of introduction. This way, and also by discussing with you, he can have a better understanding of your interests and plan the workshop accordingly, so that you can have the maximum benefit. The focus is geared to whatever interests you, other than the city itself and the local lives of the people. The participants explore different areas in the city and photograph what interests them.

The methodology is based on editing. During the day, the participants are expected to explore the city and shoot what interests them, either on their own or in pairs or small groups. Each one may choose locations freely according to what they are interested in and feel comfortable with. They all meet up early in the evening in order to go through the day’s work and do the editing.

The equipment that you would need is any digital camera, a laptop, and a USB flash. Basic skills in camera technique is required for this workshop.  The workshop is conducted in English and the maximum number of participants in the workshop is 10.
