Second Hand Holiday
Ever since he was a child, William has been consumed by wanderlust and seeking discomfort. As a photographer, travelling allows him to explore different cultures and document his experiences.
Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, travelling has been restricted and banned in various ways, and the world has come to a standstill. As a result of this he has missed out of experiences he would otherwise have had.
William has an interest in found imagery, and he recently purchased an archive of 800 film slides capturing random peoples holidays and experiences travelling around the world. After spending days examining the images, he feels as if he knows these people; as if he is there with them.
In this journey, William lives vicariously through others, borrowing their experiences to temporarily fill a void in his own. Through the intervention of placing himself in the frame, he is able to form a stronger connection with these individuals and their environments.
