“Interface / Interference”
The interface divides the world into innumerable fragments and it’s full of potential for change. Sometimes it can be the takeoff for communication, harmony or mutual understanding, and sometimes the ignition point of rejection, separation or conflict just like the wall.
Toru wrote, “When I say ‘I’, an interface appears around me without a shape. As soon as I say ‘you’, another interface appears between you and me. Whenever I point my camera at the world, I become aware that it’s full of interfaces.”
His project deals with the interface between contrastive elements or the interaction / interference with each other. Nature and humanity, nature and civilization, the past and the present, this world and the other world, a person and another, etc. The interface seems like the opening sentence of a (hi)story. Nobody knows whether it will lead to a happy ending or a tragic one.
Some pictures here were taken in Kyoto. The ancient capital is surrounded by mountains and many rivers flow through the city. Various dimensions border on one another. Even nature is nothing other than nature with humanities and the accumulation of history. The interface gives birth to chimeras of various dimensions.
